E-Filing of 2020 tax returns begins Feb 12, 2021:
IRS will allow e-filing of 2020 tax returns on Feb 12, 2021. TaxLady will start processing returns right away but we (nor any tax preparer or do-it-yourself service) cannot transmit returns electronically to the IRS before Feb 12. Does this mean you should file a paper return instead? Absolutely not! The IRS has a backlog of over 6.9 million tax returns from last year that they haven’t processed yet (due to both budget cuts and social distancing and/or stay at home orders that affected IRS staff). Paper return backlogs are likely to grow so anyone who can e-file should do so. TaxLady e-files all eligible returns (certain tax forms cannot be e-filed but this does not affect most of our clients).
Office hours (January 18 – April 15):
8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Sat
The IRS has released a new 2020 Form W-4. Your current employer may soon ask you to complete it. You will also need to complete it if you start a new job or want to change the withholding at your current job. This form is a completely different design than previous years. The IRS has designed a tax withholding calculator you can use to help you complete the form. You can access it at:
